John 17: 1-5 records this prayer of Jesus:
"Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.
The mention of eternal life summons up pictures of harps and clouds, but that's not how it's described here. Jesus knew he was about to die and he was very clear. Eternal life is: Knowing God.
Much more than just intellectual knowledge, when Jesus said eternal life is knowing God, He was speaking of having an intimate, close, personal relationship with God. It makes me think how little I know God, and wonder how much bigger life could be. Not just in eternity, but right now.
What can you do today and tomorrow that will increase your knowing God?
