Mt Wellington Community Church

For those of us who don't strike up evangelist conversations regularly, have you ever wondered what you would say if a sharing situation happened?
There are many long book, short books, mnemonics, formulae etc on the subject, but how about something that could fit into this small Current Comment?
Start with a prayer.  You're going to need some help and God promises his Holy Spirit for times like these.  Then you could talk about
1) God's holiness:  God is holy, but we are imperfect humans.  Because He is holy, God is unable to look at sin.  We are made for relationship with God but it is our sin that separates us from God.
2) Our sin (rebellion/disobedience):  The Bible says, "for we all have sinned and are not good enough to share God's divine greatness" (Romans 3:23).  That means everyone.  People don't like to think of themselves as sinners; after all, they're nowhere near as bad as (insert name here).  Tread carefully.  But the fact remains, we are all sinners.
3) Christ's death for sinners:  God's love bridges the gap between us and Him.  "He (Jesus) personally carried the load of our sins in his own body when he died on the cross, so that we can be finished with sin and live a good life from now on. For his wounds have healed ours" (1 Peter 2:24). This is AMAZING!  This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed.  By believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.
4) The free gift of life by faith:  All we need to do is to take this gift.  It is free!  " Admit you're a sinner.  Ask forgiveness and be willing to turn away from your sins.  Believe that Christ died for you on the cross. Receive Christ into your heart and life" (Billy Graham). "Christ.... gave the right to become God's children to everyone who believed in him" (John 1:12).
