"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:13-16
The verses above from Matthew 5 (the emphasis is mine) have come to my mind a few times over the last few weeks.
On Friday I had the privilege of meeting with Denise Lee, the National MP for this area in Ellerslie for a coffee. We talked about a range of things. What was really encouraging for me was the fact that she said that MWCC and MCCT, together, were a bright light in this area. She said we had her support as we move forward with things we are looking at doing, including the new community centre.
And the verses also came to mind two weeks ago when I met with a Christian couple from the local community here who messaged me through the church facebook page and asked to meet.
It turns out they are really interested in starting a community meal and when they asked about who they should talk to they were told MWCC. They said we are well known for doing things in our community and that is a good thing.
May we continue to shine our light. Why? So our Father in heaven may be glorified.
